Your child's eye test
Children - and parents - are often anxious about their first visit to the optometrist.
With many years of experience Paul makes your child's eye test enjoyable and fun. Eye tests for children take around 30-45 minutes. As the consultation room has to be darkened, it is reassuring to have Mum, Dad or a special carer in the consulting room, however for safety and distraction reasons, siblings and other family members are encouraged to remain in the waiting room.
During an eye examination for children:
Paul will take a detailed history and ask about any current symptoms |
Current visual acuity is measured using pictures, numbers or letters depending upon the child's age and literacy level |
The ability to focus, eye muscle balance, movement and co-ordination are all measured. |
Eyes are assessed for optical correction and new visual acuity |
Depth perception is assessed |
Paul will also assess your child's ocular (eye) health and provide a diagnosis and suggested course of action |
Referral to a medical practitioner or other eyecare professional if required |

Did you know that vision is responsible for 80% of all learning in a child's first 12 years? As poor vision in children can often go unnoticed, we recommend that your child has an eye test before they start school and regularly throughout their school years.
During February, March and April 2012, our “Kids See for Free” promotion is offering a FREE second pair* of glasses (valued at $200) with the purchase of children's frames and prescription lenses of $250 or more. See our “What's New” page for more information.
